Well, if yesterday was anything to go by this Giro is going to be explosive every single day. It looked like stage 4 would be the first time we saw the contenders ride into battle but what we saw was just the beginning of three weeks of awesome.
What we gained:
- Teams are going after Sky and will do so at every opportunity, Hesjedal and Paulinho delivered the first blows with the latter now in the Maglia Rosa which may not be a disappointing to Sky who will be happy to be off the front of the peloton.
- Cadel Evans looked a worry on the climb and it doesn’t bode well for the high mountain stages but he still showed he can descend with the best of them.
The outlook for stage 4:
The second longest stage of the Giro has a category 2 climb, peaking with 7 kilometres remaining, I think Sky will be out to shut everything down on the climb, the short descent over the top will again provide an opportunity for the likes of Nibali to pick up some valuable time on Wiggins.
